On February 7th Emily Dubia with the La Veta Mercantile hosted Huerfano Soup Sponsored by Bachman & Associates. After each guest donated $5 or more at the door along with providing a pot luck item they took their seat to vote for one of three non-profit organizations who took the stage for five minutes to explain why they should receive “the pot” and a padded donation by Bachman & Associates. First up was La Veta Beautification explaining not only what their plans are for this year but also their contribution to La Veta in the previous years. Next was Two Peaks Fitness, who hoped to win the donations for a new treadmill for the gym. The final guest speakers with Sangre De Cristo Center For Youth ended up taking home the pot to fund a field trip to Arizona, taking a handful of their children along for a self health clinic! Emily explained this event is not just to support non-profits within the La Veta or Cuchara area it was for all of Huerfano County! Over 75 community members attended the event which lead to a grand total of $730.26 donated to SCCY! The next Huerfano Soup Event is on March 7th, and we cannot wait to see who will take home the pot this round!
